About Alecia Lawyer
Alecia Lawyer is a Texas-rooted Juilliard and SMU graduate who calls her work “wildcatting in the arts,” boldly expanding what classical music can be through innovation, access, and a human-first approach. She is the Founder, Artistic Director, and Principal Oboist of ROCO, Houston’s deeply local and globally relevant 40-piece professional chamber orchestra now in its 20th season, where she reimagines concert spaces, dissolves genre lines, and uses technology to deepen audience engagement while championing new and diverse voices through commissions and premieres by underrepresented composers. Hailed by the Houston Chronicle as “The Johnny Appleseed of arts nonprofits,” she has been named one of Musical America’s Top 30 Influencers and Houston’s Top 50 Most Influential Women, and she is in demand nationally as a speaker on leadership and arts innovation. Beyond ROCO, Alecia serves on multiple arts boards, performs internationally as an F. Lorée oboe artist, coaches musicians in career development and performance, and at home shares adventures with her husband Larry and their two sons—often hitting the open road together on weekend Harley rides.
