The Guy in the Yellow Tie is a gripping memoir about courage, retaliation, faith, and redemption. It tells my journey from U.S. Air Force Academy cadet and whistleblower to military veteran, intelligence professional, and advocate determined to challenge the institutions that failed the very people they were supposed to protect.
After exposing serious misconduct while at the Air Force Academy, I experienced retaliation that threatened my reputation, career, and future. But that was not the end of my story.
I went on to serve with the 19th Special Forces Group, deploy to the Middle East in support of Operations Inherent Resolve and Spartan Shield, and eventually turn my experiences into a mission to advocate for service members, survivors, and whistleblowers.
The Guy in the Yellow Tie is about what happens when telling the truth comes at a cost. It is also about rebuilding after betrayal, rediscovering faith, and refusing to allow someone else or an institution to write the ending of your story.
It is a story for anyone who has ever been underestimated, mislabeled, betrayed, or pressured to remain silent.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Adam DéRito is a military veteran, intelligence professional, whistleblower, educator, podcast host, and political advocate. A former U.S. Air Force Academy cadet and member of the 19th Special Forces Group, he deployed to the Middle East in support of Operations Inherent Resolve and Spartan Shield.
His experiences with military service, institutional retaliation, and advocacy have shaped his commitment to protecting service members, survivors, and whistleblowers.
Adam is the host of the Dark Sabre Podcast and Tuxes & Tomahawks Podcast and the creator of the proposed Military Mental Health Justice and Protect Act, known as the “DeRito Act.” He has also carried his advocacy into the political arena as a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District.
In The Guy in the Yellow Tie, Adam shares his journey through service, betrayal, war, faith, and rebuilding while challenging readers to consider what it truly means to stand for truth when doing so comes at a personal cost.
