Podcast Transcript:

We’re going to talk podcasting today. It is all the rage. Have a podcast, be on a podcast. We want to talk about why you should have a podcast, why you should be on a podcast. We wrote a book about having a podcast and having a book, how to create a book from a podcast, and how to get clients from your book and your podcast.

This book really dives deep into why you should have a podcast, how you can get leads from your podcast, and how you can grow your business by having a book and a podcast and using them together.

We’re going to talk about expanding your reach through your audience, connecting with podcasters, putting the word out about your business, and gaining trust.

How do you connect to an audience by having a podcast or being on a podcast? The very first thing is that you have to know who your audience is so you need to have that avatar or that ideal client. Who is it that you want to talk to and get your message to? Whether you’re doing a podcast on your own or doing it interview style, you want to make sure who you have in your mind and who are you talking to.

When you go to create a podcast or be a guest on a podcast, it’s imperative that you have a book to go with it because then you have content that people can find you on Amazon and get more content from you afterwards. You could even use it to give your book away from the podcast, whether you’re on one or you have your own. It gives trust, it gains trust for your audience and clients and prospects. You’re building your business and associations by having those books and having those interviews on podcasts as well.

Podcasts can drive traffic to your site and gain popularity. Having a podcast, you’re going to build trust and your audience is going to be listening to you or watching you if you put it on YouTube. They’re going to like you and trust you because they’re listening to you. I’ve listened to a few podcasts and when you hear their voice, you automatically feel like you know them. So the builds the trust and then from there, they’re going to be sharing it with their friends and with other people. A few of the podcasts I’ve listened to were because someone had referred it to me. If you read about a company online, you wonder if you want to actually hire them, but you could see them and actually talk to them without actually having a conversation with them. It’s like I got to know them by listening to them and seeing how they interact with people, seeing if they have expertise when they talk about their services before you even call them. You don’t even have to connect or opt into their system and get those emails from them that we dread all the time. You can get to know them through their podcast or being on a podcast. If they have a book, you can go on Amazon and read the preview of the book without even buying it. You can see who they are and get familiar with them. It’s a great way to bridge that gap of just having a webpage and people getting to know you. Even if you put a video on your webpage, it’s more staged versus when you’re on a podcast it’s more like chatting it up and having coffee, like just hanging out and having conversations with people. You really get to see who we are and how we interact with people, so it’s a much cooler way to broadcast your method. It’s the new way. Before, if you wanted to be on the radio or on a TV station, barrier tension was really high just to have a conversation, and then it’s like why should I have you on, and then it costs you money to do that and you’re on a limited time frame. Let’s say we gave you not a great time slot, no one would ever see it again. If you’re doing a podcast, you can repurpose it, put it on your social media, put it on YouTube, put it on LinkedIn, put it on Facebook, and then it’s going to broadcast through iTunes, Stitcher Radio, Spotify. It’s going to be on Alexa and iHeartRadio. Think of producing that one thing one time and all those places I just mentioned. And then if you tie that in with having a book to promote you and your brand, it’s just huge. So we really recommend it. You can search out and buy our book where it tells you a lot of how to do that, it gives you an inside peek into podcasting and creating and writing a book.

What happens when you have that podcast you build that trust and then you’re going to drive traffic, you’re going to drive leads to where ever you want to drive them to. That’s the awesomeness of a podcast and a book is that you have a call to action at the end, whether it’s to subscribe or to go visit your website or to submit a survey. The book is the same way – you have a call to action at the beginning and then the same at the end. Some people go as far as putting the call to action at the end of every chapter. You want to have those calls to action because that’s what’s going to drive the traffic and leads to your website or to where ever you want them to go. Maybe it’s to call you and get a 30-minute consultation, maybe it’s to go to your 3-day training seminar, maybe it’s just to go read your book.

Another key point is that you can pick people you want to interview who you want to be your clients. It’s a great way to get in front of the clients you’ve been trying to get in front of, but you’re offering value to them by interviewing them on your show. We’ve gotten quite a few clients by doing that. This book came from a podcast that we did. We interviewed someone,  Steve Gordon, decided to do a webinar from interviewing him together, and then from the webinar, we decided to turn the webinar into a book. You never know where it’s going to lead and how it’s going to blow up your business.

If you want to learn more about how to do a podcast or how to write a book or to put them together and do both at the same time, then go check out the book Podcast Authorized. You can find it on Amazon if you search out Melanie Johnson, she has an author page, you can click on her name and see all of her books. You can also look for my Amazon author page which is Jenn Foster. We hope that you go and learn everything you can about how you can start a podcast and turn it into a book or vise versa. You can turn a podcast into a book or a book into a podcast and use them both as your marketing tools.
