Book Cover Trends for 2022

When it comes to books, people like to see cover designs that are trendy in terms of color, typefaces, style, concepts, and such other elements. We will see many designs come and go as the designs are always changing, so it’s good to stay on top of what is trendy, and what is not.

1. Bold Typography

Not a new tactic, bold typography is a great way to catch a reader’s eye. This trend has been going on for a few years and is showing no signs of slowing down.

2. Minimalistic

A minimalistic cover is something that anyone can look at and understand immediately. This might include very little text that isn’t very embellished or a book cover that only has one image and one color.

3. Hand Drawn Letters

Handwritten letters or other hand-drawn elements at that can give the book cover an even more customized look. This gives the cover more personality and will draw people to it.

4. Retro

The comeback of the 70s and 80s are prevalent in things like tv shows and media. It is no surprise that they are coming back in books as well. These book covers are going to bring nostalgia to shoppers. Things like vibrant colors and shapes will also most likely be used.

5. Collages

Collages express a tactile feeling and often allow more than one subject to shine through. This tactic gives covers a unique and original look.

6. Authentic Photos

Photos from live events, instead of taken from a website, connect the reader more to the story. This will make it easier for the book to start building a relationship with the reader before the book has even been opened.

7. Premium Finishing

Things like foil stamping and embossing to design text and title on hardcover books make them stand out. Even minimalistic covers will jump off the bookshelf catching the eyes of readers. This tactic is also good for quality, the book itself will look nice longer.

8. The Color Pink

Not just any pink, but a color called millennial pink. This shade looks a bit like a dusty and greyed rose. This color has already dominated many a bookstore. This color is attractive to a wide audience and is very eye-catching.

9. Messy Designs

Although minimalistic book covers are very much in right now, a messy cover can be just as enticing. These covers often have design elements from top to bottom, with a mix of fonts as well. Such a complex look is given to the book for a reason, it is unique, quirky, and memorable.

10. Text On Photos

Incorporating text with a photo makes a unique cover, giving it a look of integrity and completeness. It also might give insight to a character in the book.
