Lessons Learned in Writing a Book

June 15, 2018

The process of writing a book can teach you a great deal about entrepreneurialism, from consistency to marketing. You can expedite things by hiring a ghostwriter or speaking into a voice recorder and recruiting a transcriber. However, the classic journey that requires you to take the responsibility of crafting and typing each word can impart greater returns in the form of lessons learned and habits formed.

If you’ve convinced yourself you’re not a writer, still consider creating the content for a book. Writing a manuscript holds incredible value. The lessons translate to entrepreneurship and life whether you write every day or once a year. The outcome doesn’t have to be perfect, but a good editor will help provide critical feedback.

Many well-known business owners have taken the time to write a book including Grant Cardone, Arianna Huffington, Daymond John and Lisa Nichols. It’s difficult to be certain who actually wrote their own book, but. we can see that they believed a book was a worthy experience and a viable product to add to their toolbox.

Books aren’t financially lucrative for everyone. They are typically lower-priced items with a limited return and a large time investment. Larger publishing houses evaluate proposals based on minimum requirements. A social-media following of 100,000, a set number of subscribers tomailing lists or other indicators influence a book’s profitability. These aren’t challenges for celebrity entrepreneurs or well-known business people, but can be obstacles for aspiring authors.

However, the lessons and experience can far outweigh the cost in time and energy.
Here are a few of the lessons/benefits.

1. Discipline –

Discipline is a must-have skill in business ownership. Entrepreneurs must understand the importance of dedicating consistent time and other resources to building a business. Writing requires you to spend time every day to record your ideas. Withou embracing discipline, or you’ll never finish what you’ve started.

2. Marketing –

Discover ways to promote your product to readership is crucial. Whether through a publishing house or a self-publishing option, you are responsible for spreading the word. You must either learn about marketing strategies or hire a professional to make certain the book serves as a tool to create more business opportunities. Weaving it into your social-media campaign can turn influence and income.

3. Positive Self-Awareness –

Becoming an author forces you to wrestle with your inner values as you spend time alone with your thoughts. Regardless of whether your book discusses your business or your life, you’ll spend time considering how your thoughts align with your actions. This reflection demands that a writer explore themself. How does the person who shows up in the pages of your book compare with your internal image of who you believe yourself to be?

Today is a good day to start working on your book and discover how it can benefit you, your sphere of influence.
